This dissertation was presented to and accepted by the Graduate College of
the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2006 in partial fulfillment of the
requirements for a Doctor of Philosophy degree. Lee's advising committee was
chaired by Dr. Gary Meers and included the Curator
of Anthropology at the Nebraska State Museum and three tenured professors
from the University's Department of Human Sciences, from which department the
degree was granted. Outside readers included two prominent national
numismatists.
The title of the dissertation is "Measuring Numismatic Education at the Post-Secondary Level." It is written in the technical, dry style mandated by the American Psychological Association (APA). There are no illustrations or pictures and the entire text is typed and double-spaced. Editing was done by Holly Sexton of the University's Department of Educational Psychology. The dissertation is divided into the standard five chapters of all research papers: 1) Statement of the problem, 2) Review of the literature, 3) Methodology, 4) Data collection and 5) Analysis and conclusions. The dissertation Abstract and Selections from it can be accessed free by clicking on their links. A list of the Tables and Appendixes is also available here at no charge. Including all appendixes, the dissertation is about 120 pages in length. The entire dissertation is available in either digitally or in hard copy. All contents are copyright 2006 to Lawrence J. Lee. Due to time constraints, the focus of this study was only on numismatic education as it occurs in colleges and universities within the United States. Data on informal numismatic education sponsored by national and local coin collecting organizations is being collected for a forthcoming study on all aspects of numismatic education in this county.
